Winemaking Notes
|
The rich Terra Rossa soils of the Coonawarra region in South Australia provide the foundation stones for some of the world’s best Cabernet Sauvignons. This wine was made from a pedigreed vineyard renowned for producing high quality fruit. After around 10 days on skins this parcel spent 10 months in carefully selected oak from new to several years old. The result is a classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon that whilst drinking well now has a cellar potential of 10+ years.

Initially restrained, however the spicy fruit and dark chocolate hint at the brooding power to come.

The distinctly Cabernet characters of dark chocolate, succulent tannins and dark berries flow through with intensity, balance and fruit weight. It’s a quintessential Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon.

Distinctly youthful dark garnet. Inviting nose offering up fine spice, menthol, tobacco, liquorice and cassis. Heady, velvety palate framed by slightly herbal, silky tannins. Shy as yet but with obvious breed. Wonderful.

95-96 points (4.5 Stars) – Winestate
95 points (5 stars) – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
This is splendidly composed and expressed, showing crème de cassis, Black Doris plum, cedar, violet and vanilla characters on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate that displays excellent depth and intensity. The wine is superbly ripe and rich, while remaining wonderfully balanced and structured with loads of attractive flavours. At its best: 2020 to 2030.
95 points (5 stars) – Leo Daly, Wine Matrix
Bright brick red with deep purple hues in the glass. A spicy fruit nose with stewed plum evident. The palate is typical Coonawarra Cabernet. Complex, well balanced with ample dark chocolate and blackcurrant in a lovely tannin grip. It’s certainly gob smacking. It’s great now but another 5 to 7 years will reward patient cellaring. For those culinary imbibes, this beauty will marry well with medium to rare Wagyu beef.
92 points (4 Stars) – Nick Butler, The Real Review Very youthful olive black colour with purple edges. A foreboding young nose of high-toast oak and dark chocolate, latent fruit yet to unfurl. Big and structured, a mix of oak and skin tannin, blackberries and raspberry liqueur. Needs time. Drink 2021-2030.
