Winemaking Notes
|
Barbera is renowned for producing a fresh bright and youthful wine style with marked acidity and quite low and approachable tannins. Produced from a single block, the fruit is thinned prior to harvest to ensure only the highest quality is delivered to the winery. The bunches are destemmed into open fermenters and left to undergo a spontaneous fermentation. The ferment is gently hand plunged twice a day to ensure gentle tannin extraction, then pressed into a mix of older and some young seasoned oak.

Nose
|
Typical of the 2017 vintage, it is highly aromatic and bright with red fruit. There’s a subtle hint of grated nutmeg and woody spice on the nose, complimented by rose petal, raspberry and dark cherry.

The bright palate is abundant with forest fruits and berries with juicy acidity giving impressive length.

Fairly deep, young colour. Intense oakiness on the nose backed by ripe red and black fruits. A dense, sensual and tight-grain wine displaying layered fruit enveloped in modern-styled oak which adds freshness and sweetness. Decant to bring out the fruit. Silver Medal (91 points / 4 stars) – Wine Showcase
Silver Medal – 2020 Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition |

93 points – Rob Geddes MW Authentic Barbera ripe and sour cherry fruit aromas, oak is obvious which helps with this variety as it supports the tannin acid tension. The oak sweetens the flavours and builds fullness and supports the Barbera berry fruits that sit in the middle palate.
93 points – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit A lovely rendition of the variety, the sweetly lifted bouquet shows dark plum, cranberry, vanilla and toasted nut characters with a whiff of pepper spice. It is equally satisfying on the palate with fleshy texture and plump mouthfeel, finishing silky and lingering. At its best: now to 2025.
93 points (5 Stars) – Stephen Read, Wine Matrix The nose is intense with aromas of blackcurrant cassis, red fruits, cigar box oak, herbal and savoury tones all in harmony. The palate is full with green but soft tannins layers of fruit, blackcurrants, plums, red cherries, with well-integrated oak. There is spice at the front adding to the complexity and the overall balance of the wine. Enjoy now but will benefit from time in the cellar 5+ years.
