Wine making Notes
|
The 2016 vintage was warm and dry throughout the crucial lead-up to harvest enabling the fruit to attain flavour and tannin ripeness at maturity. A portion of the Cabernet was left for an extended period of maceration on skins. The wine was matured for approximately 14 months in 25% new French Oak barriques. Cellar potential of 8+ years.

95 points (5 Stars) – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Deep, youthful red/purple colour. The bouquet is fresh and bright,
with spicy, floral and star anise aromas, while the palate is full-bodied,
deep and well concentrated, with abundant firm tannins backing up.
Classic cassis and violet cabernet flavours, deep-set. Long carry; firm,
dry tannin finish. This promises a long & productive lifespan. Drink to 2039.
95 points (5 Stars) – Leo Daly, Wine Matrix A beautiful trilogy of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot with an already settled character from the 2016 vintage. This wine has something for everyone. Brick red in the glass, the nose follows on with attractive spice & dark plum. Palate wise, a full bodied style offering cassis & black current flavours & in typical Margaret River style, it finishes with soft & lingering tannins. Has got the legs to get better with cellaring, but don’t deny yourself the opportunity to experience it now.
94 points (5 Stars) – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit A wonderfully expressed Bordeaux-style red; the fragrant bouquet shows blackcurrant, dark plum, thyme, cedar and olive characters, leading to a flavoursome palate that is supple and lingering. It is beautifully fruited and brilliantly structured by fine, grainy tannins, finishing long and pleasingly dry. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot. At its best: now to 2026.
94 points – Rob Geddes MW Complexity on the nose, ripe sweet but not jammy, very Margaret River cassis and black currant aromas. The plate has ripe fruit and well-balanced tannins.
Recommended – Gourmet Traveller Wine, Feb 2020 / Mar 2020 – Best Buy Wines – Wines To Cellar The wine delivers a lot of honest cabernet-family flavour and has a structure to help it age. With a deep and youthful colour, it has a fresh bouquet of spicy, floral and star anise aromas, while the palate is full bodied, deep and well-concentrated, backed up by generous tannins. The deep-set cassis and violet aromas and flavours are typical of the region. The long finish is laced with firm, dry tannins. Best drinking 2021-2039. A$40 / NZ$45.
