Winemaking Notes
|
The rich Terra Rossa soil of Coonawarra, along with its cool climate, make for perfect conditions to produce quality Merlot. Picked at 13.2 baume and crushed / destemmed. Cultured Lallamand yeast added after one day giving more upfront fruit and violet aromas. 8 days spent on skins and co-inoculated for malolactic fermentation. The wine was matured in 5% new American oak for 6 months.

94 points (4 Stars) – Nick Butler, The Real Review Translucent ruby red. Red plums and violets leap from the glass, cedary oak and red licorice. It's an energetic palate - those red berries again, cherries and cinnamon, a lovely flow and prodigious length under-written by crunchy toffee apple acidity. Lovely wine. Drink 2019 – 2027.
93 points (5 Stars) – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit Stylish and delightfully expressed, the wine shows Black Doris plum, sweet raspberry, cedar, dried herb and cocoa characters on the nose, followed by a succulent palate that is plump and lingering. Harmonious, flavoursome and elegantly structured. At its best: now to 2029.
92 points – Stephen Read, Wine Matrix Deep ruby with purple hues clear and bright. The nose while subtle is complex with herbal nuances, red berries, plums along with sweet oak and floral tones. The palate is medium bodied and complex with layers of sweet plums, red berries, tight tannins and a textural mouthfeel, leading to a tight finish with good length. Will improve with 4 plus years in the cellar.
92 points – Leo Daly, Wine Matrix Ruby red in the glass, this 'consumer friendly’ Merlot is generous and ‘fat’ on the palate with attractive stewed fruit and plum characters. Quality oak treatment adds to it’s appeal and complexity leaving the consumer not
disappointed. The silky finish doesn’t equal it’s big brother varietals
Shiraz or Cabernet, but ‘hello’ it’s Merlot!! A medium bodied, well
rounded and more-ish wine.
